Russel joined the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team in 2022, after having previously filled in for Hamilton at the 2021 Sakhir Grand Prix for the Silver Arrows. He claimed his maiden pole position and win during his first full season driving for Mercedes-AMG and ended the season fourth in the drivers' championship, scoring 275 points to Hamilton's 240 – an impressive performance. He has continued with them into the 2023 season and continues to deliver on track.
